🇺🇬 UNEB worried by students’ use of slang during examinations
📌The Uganda National Examinations Board-UNEB has raised concern about the increasing use of slang during examinations. Dan Odongo, the Executive Director of UNEB said the use of slang is one of the factors affecting the performance of learners not only in English and Literature but also in other subjects that require constructing sentences.
🇺🇬 Police recovers stolen gun in Mayuge Town Council
📌The Police in Busoga East on Thursday recovered a gun that was reportedly stolen from private security guards of Wolves Security Group, in Mayuge Town Council. Bashir Siriba, the Mayuge District Police Commander said the gun, loaded with 10 rounds of live ammunition, was recovered hidden in a wooden box and dumped in a bushy area, along Mulumba road, in Mayuge Town Council.
🇺🇬 Phones prohibited at Makerere’s 73rd Graduation ceremony
📌Makerere University 73rd Graduation will take place next week from February 13-17 at the Freedom Square. The Academic Registrar’s office has confirmed that the organising committee will prohibit guests from accessing the venue with phones as they are among prohibited items during the week-long ceremony.

📌Shortly after the nomination of NRM candidate, Philip Oucor yesterday, Hajji Moses Kigongo, the National Vice Chairperson of the party said that NRM is focused on winning the by-elections in Serere County.
“We are determined to win the election as the people of Serere voted for the NRM Government into power, we want to start delivering services to the people of Serere through Philip Oucor. Once they bring him to us, we need somebody we can sit down with and talk to and that is Philip, we don’t want the people of Serere to miss out on this.” He said.

📌The Vice President Jessica Alupo has asked university graduates to avoid the mindset of only being job seekers but use the entrepreneurial skills attained to create more jobs. Alupo was speaking during the installation of Muni University’s second chancellor Dr. Henry Luke Orombi, where also 260 students graduated in different fields.

📌The NSSF probe select committee chaired by MP Mwine Mpaka has handed the phone of the former NSSF Managing Director, Richard Byarugaba and that of Chief Financial Officer, Stevens Mwanje to CID for forensic investigation in regard to a 1.8Billion budget for Corporate Social Investment (CSI).
🇺🇬 Schools request for full payment to give admission to S.1 learners
📌Several schools around the country have requested parents to make full payment of fees before their children are admitted in Senior 1. After the selection process that took place last week, many parents whose children were placed in Senior 1 rushed to pick admission letters. However, many are leaving schools puzzled due to the conditions set by the school to those who wish to get admitted.
🇺🇬 EAC to develop Courts to fight wildlife trafficking
📌East African member states have concluded a four day meeting in Entebbe, adopting a proposal to develop special wildlife courts in the region. According to Robert Mande, the Tanzanian taskforce member, the move is intended to deal with illegal trafficking of wildlife, especially to Asian countries. Under the proposals, countries are supposed to designate specialised judicial officers to specifically handle cases for quick investigation and prosecution.
🇺🇬 BALAMBULI: ACORD Uganda donates blankets, soap and mamakits to Buluganya Health Centre III
📌The Agency for Research and Corporation in Development (ACORD) has donated Mama kits, blankets and soap to expecting mothers in Buluganya Health Centre III. A kit includes a bucket, washing soap, baby clothes, t-shirt for the mother, one wrapper/kitenge, a pair of slippers and a mosquito net.
“With these kits, the number of mothers delivering in the health centre has increased.” said the in-charge of Buluganya Health Centre III.

📌National Medical Stores (NMS) has delivered drugs and supplies to Bidibidi Health Centre IIl which will cover all the 14 health facilities in Aringa East Constituency in Yumbe District.
🇺🇬 BUYENDE: Armyworm vanishes due to weather changes
📌 The Army worm that had been reported in the parishes of Kidera, Agola, Powendo and Panyangas in Buyende District in September last year has since vanished. The District Agriculture officer attributes the disappearance of the worm to change in weather patterns.
🇺🇬 MUBENDE: Alarm over increasing number of deaths caused by Rabies
📌Doctors at Mubende General Hospital have raised alarm over the increasing number of deaths caused by dog-borne disease known as Rabies. According to Dr. Ronic Kamugisha ,a doctor at Mubende General Hospital four people died last month in Mubende. He said that all patients that were bitten by rabid dogs have died.

📌The Right Honourable Speaker of the 11th, Parliament, Anet Among Anita who doubles as the Woman Member of Parliament Bukedea has launched distribution of scholastic materials to support upper primary pupils across Bukedea District. The distribution was launched on February 09, 2023 at Apopong Primary School in Kolir Sub County spearheaded by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Yeko Bulubulu.
🇺🇬 MBALE: UPDF Engineering Brigade undertakes third construction phase of Mbale Regional Referral Hospital
📌Construction of the third phase of the surgical complex at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital will be undertaken by the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF engineering brigade after the contract of Global Network Construction Company Limited was terminated. Patrick Akomera, the Principal Hospital Administrator says, they are developing designs for the complex from the consultant that will work and guide the engineering brigade. He adds that when completed, the surgical complex will address the shortage of space in the hospital.
🇺🇬 ADJUMANI: Government delivers drugs and medical supplies to Openzinzi Health Center III
📌The Chairperson Adropi Sub County on Thursday, while witnessing delivery of drugs at Openzinzi Health Center III, commended Government for improving health services delivery in its health facilities. The chairperson urged National Medical Stores to always conduct monitoring of drugs use after delivery.

📌Police has arrested a gang of four on charges of setting ablaze, using petrol, one Sharon Driwaru 17, beyond recognition last month at Cwinya village Yumbe Town Council. The Acting Police Spokesperson in North West Nile region, Ignatius Dragudu, identified suspects as Mubarak Rashul 18, Sobasi Abdul 20, Ariku Ramandhan 24, and Atiku Razaki 24, all residents of Yumbe Town Council.

📌The Alerek Town Councilor, Owiny Paul Arthur on Thursday commended UPDF officers of Apeikidor Military Detach for recovering 24 heads of cattle from Jie worriors. He explained that their quick response when they were called-in helped to follow up the warriors up to Rwoth cell in Kawang ward. Residents say that the cows had been stolen from the kraal of Owilli Mathew in Kawang cell in Kawang ward, Alerek Town Council.

📌Residents in Kamuli Town Council on Friday lynched an unknown suspected Boda-boda thief. It is alleged that he was followed from Bugonza in Kaliro District where he is said to have run away with a motorcycle Bajaj Boxer UFT 477G, to Kamuli District. His body was taken to Bumanya Health Center.
🌍 KENYA: Gov’t describes US, UK terror alerts as ‘completely unfortunate’
📌The Kenyan Government has described as “completely unfortunate”, the terror alerts issued by the United States and the United Kingdom, but urged Kenyans to remain vigilant even as it celebrated the country’s success in battling Al-Shabaab. Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei said the country was recording major success in battling the Al-Qaeda-linked terror group.
🌍 South Sudan accuses Kenya of border encroachment
📌South Sudan has accused Kenya of trying to steal disputed territory along their border after communal clashes that left at least eight people dead. Parliamentarians are piling pressure on President Salva Kiir to recall the house from recess so they can discuss the simmering border dispute. Fighting occurred in the area, in and around the town of Nakodok, a few miles from an oil field on the Kenyan side of the border.
🌍 South Sudan abdons US dollar for home currency
📌South Sudan’s Government has suspended the use of the US Dollar and instead directed that all transactions be executed in the local currency, the South Sudanese pound (SSP), in a move feared to stifle economic activity in the war-ravaged economy. According to Michael Makuei Lueth, South Sudanese Information minister, The Bank of South Sudan has banned the use of the greenback and directed that all commercial contracts be signed in the local currency.

📌The administration of Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland said on Friday that it had agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, following five days of clashes in the east of the territory that health workers say have killed dozens of people.
🌍 Ethiopian Airlines to start Karachi flights next month
📌Ethiopian Airlines is set on a path of growth, with the addition of a new destination in its already vast network of more than 150 destinations. Karachi- Pakistan, will welcome the Ethiopian national carrier on March 26th. The direct flight between Ethiopia and Karachi will enable the two countries to strengthen their already-deep socio-economic relations, with the airline acting as a bridge between Pakistan, Africa, and the rest of the world.
